Eversmiling Liberty (1998)
The two Danish composers Erling Kullberg and Jens Johansen wrote "Eversmiling Liberty" in 1992 as a homage to G. F. Händel and his oratorio "Judas Maccabäus".
All lyrics have been taken from the baroque original - not completely, but as far as the storyline could be maintained. In many details the music shows equivalents and connections to the music of Händel. The combination with today's Jazz- and rock music constitutes the charm of "Eversmiling Liberty".
There is no contradiction between jazz and canon, rock and recitative or fugue, liturgical chant and rap - it is possible to combine them.In addition to the oratorio, the CD presents several gospel songs - partly from the first songs of joyful voices, partly actual songs.
